NOTE: Prolonged use of this can cause skin sensitivity. Only use this when you have no other choice
My contact dermatitis (allergic reaction) came back this week. I broke out in rashes and acne. If you have eczema/dermatitis, you probably hate the itch when it flares up. The rash doesn’t go away on its own. Apply a medicated cream or take oral medication as temporary solution. For permanent solution, work on your gut health and stay away from allergens.
My doctor’s clinic is far from my place. I couldn’t take the itch anymore so I went to the drugstore to buy Elica. Its active ingredient is 1mg of Mometasone Furoate. WebMD says it treats eczema, psoriasis, rashes and allergy by reducing swelling and itch. It’s an over the counter (OTC) product. You don’t need to present doctor’s prescription BUT be careful and do not overuse this.
DOSAGE/HOW TO USE:
Apply thinly on affected areas only once a day. Do not use for more than 2 weeks. Consult a doctor.
– Affordable, 428 pesos at Mercury Drugs
– 5 grams, good amount of product
– Little goes a long way
– Can be used on the face
– Reduced swelling and itching after one application
– Reduced rashes after 2 applications
– No peeling
– Did not cause breakouts
It’s reasonably priced. The cream is spread easily so you wont need a lot. There are three variants of Elica; cream, ointment and lotion. Cream is for wet rashes while the ointment is for dry scale-y rashes. The lotion is mostly used for large areas. I bought this last wednesday. I applied it on my cheeks and nose that night. It stung for about 20 to 30 minutes because my rashes are wet. But after that the itch was gone. I immediately slept comfortably. Majority of the rashes were reduced after two days. I stopped after 4 days because I don’t feel any discomfort anymore.
This is effective. I’m impressed. I’ll keep this in my cabinet just in case. I’ll only use it when I have no choice. I don’t want my skin to depend on topical products. Remember, do not overuse this because corticosteroids can cause skin thinning. Thin skin means you’ll be more sensitive and can get more issues. We don’t want that.
