Review: LUSH Herbalism Face & Body Cleanser

1 Sep

I wanted to get my hands on this ever since I knew Lush. Their cleansing rolls are unique. They’re the first to make this kind of formula. Lushies on Youtube usually recommend Herbalism out of all their cleansing roll variants. I finally bought one to see if it’s worth it.

Description:
Battling with oily, troubled skin? Cleanse with the power of herbs. Our gentle green giant has an exfoliating, deep-cleansing base of kaolin clay and rice bran to mop up excess oils, and a toning blend of rosemary, nettle and chamomile to leave skin feeling fresh, clean and calm. Herbalism gets its color from chlorophyllin, which is extracted from alfalfa plants: it’s rich in nourishing vitamins and minerals and helps to balance out your skin’s oil production. Say hello to clear, balanced skin!

instasize_170901200418

How to use:
Take a small amount in your hand, add a little water and mix into a paste. Massage into skin to gently cleanse, then rinse clean. Use all over your body for soft skin everywhere!

TIP:
Water activates clay. Before getting a chunk of this, make sure your hands are clean and dry. You dont want to get water in the tub because the rest will be ineffective already.

Ingredients:20170901_202552-1

Pros:
– Most of its ingredients are natural
– Free from artificial preservatives
– Smells good in my opinion
– Innovative product
– Little goes a long way
– Gentle exfoliant
– Non drying and adds moisture
– Skin feels soft and smooth
– Did not trigger my contact dermatitis
– Did not cause breakouts

Cons:
– Wont remove makeup if used alone
– Can be quite expensive if bought in Manila because it expires in a few weeks

It’s made from Kaolin clay, rice vinegar, rose and chamomile. These are known for their cleansing and soothing properties. It’s self-preserving, meaning the rice vinegar acts as natural presevative. Some people think it smells bad. To me, it smells good. It has a subtle vinegar-y and fresh scent. It’s like I’m one with nature. Haha!

The ground almonds are exfoliants. I thought it would be harsh but I was wrong! It’s gentle and did not irritate me. Note that you have to use gentle motions with any kind of scrubs. After rinsing, skin feels soft and smooth. I got dry and flaky patches from using an antibiotic cream for dermatitis. The main reason why I bought this is to help in moisturizing. It does the job without making my skin oilier. FYI, flare up was gone already when I used Herbalism.

I have two cons for this. It doesn’t remove makeup residue if used alone. Always use makeup remover before doing your routine. I use this for double cleansing when I had long day. I rinse my cleansing soap first then this. I use this alone when I’m just at home or did not wear makeup. Some reviewers complain about the green tinge after rinsing. I didn’t experience that when I saw the cotton ball after toning.

IMG_20170901_200520_668

Oh hey it’s you again Tetsu! Thanks for making this. Anyway, it’s quite expensive here in Manila. Why? Because we dont have our own Lush Kitchen (a.k.a factory). The stocks are imported from Japan. Cleanser rolls here can be used up to 6 weeks only before they expire. Little goes a long way so it’s quite difficult to use it all up. I bought one last August 15. It’s 545 pesos. The SA told me it was just delivered. Nag improve na yon. Dati kasi 3 to 4 weeks lang expired na. This is reasonably priced if bought in other countries with Kitchen. Fresh batches expire after 4 months. You’ll have enough time to finish a tub.

I use this at night only. Others prefer it twice daily. I just don’t want to over exfoliate. It’s clay based already so I skip my trusty aztec healing mask. Overall I really like Herbalism. This will be a staple for me if we have our own Lush Kitchen. I’d recommend it for all skin types that are not prone to breakouts.

My Top 5 Toners for Oily Skin

19 Feb

Continuing our series with oily skin toners. The products in this list are mostly drugstore prices. You can find something that will fit your budget for sure. Range is from 85 pesos to 895 pesos. Skin care doesn’t have to be expensive. You just have to find the perfect match for your skin.

T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel

dickinsons-cleansing-whichhazel

I havent posted a full review on this yet. But I like it so much that it became the top 1. It’s pure witch hazel, no other additional ingredients. According to webMD: “Witch hazel leaf extract, bark extract, and witch hazel water are used as astringents to tighten the skin. They are also included in some medications to give those products the ability to slow down or stop bleeding. Those medications are used for treating insect bites, stings, teething, hemorrhoids, itching, irritations, and minor pain.” It helps to control my breakouts. No sting, non drying and no sticky film. I recommend it for all skin types. 59ml bottle is priced at 85 pesos. There’s a huge bottle but I forgot to check the price. Both sizes are vailable at Healthy Options branches.

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner

image

I have bought this twice. It claims to maintain skin’s PH balance. I observed that it’s not drying although it has alcohol. It won’t leave film. It didnt control breakouts but I like how my skin feels so clean after this step. Others are using this as facial mist. Just put some in a spray bottle. Its pore minimizing only lasts for a few minutes up to an hour for me. I usually get the 250ml and it lasts for 4 to 5 months. You can get this at Etude House branches. 250ml for 548 pesos while 500ml is at 898 pesos.

Celeteque Hydration Alcohol Free Toner

image

I forgot how many times I’ve finished up a bottle of this. This was my go-to toner when I still had moderate breakouts. I also buy this when I’m on a tight budget. Haha! It also has witch hazel. It feels like it gives off a film. Don’t worry it will only last for a few seconds. It feels like I dont have to apply moisturizer anymore after this. But I still do anyway just to be sure. You can get it at supermarkets, drugstores and department stores. 65 ml for 80 pesos and 120 ml is at 129 pesos

Lush Tea Tree Water Toner

image

You guys know I’m a lushie. This toner is made of Tea Tree Water, Grapefruit Water, Juniperberry Water. It’s alcohol free as well. It wont provide hydration alone and no film. So I like to spray it on my face first and then spray again on a cotton ball. It is really mattifying. It controls oil and my makeup holds longer when I use this toner. Others are using it as a setting spray. You can get this at Lush stores in Metro Manila. Php 325 for 100ml & Php 625 for 250ml.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

tea-tree-skin-clearing-toner_l

I got a bottle when it was on sale. It has tea tree scent which I love. I find it relaxing. It also controlled my breakouts. You have to shake it first because there’s powder at the bottom. That powder helps in mattifying skin. I recommend trying their tea tree line when they’re on BOGO (Buy One Get One) sale. It usually happens in Christmas season. You can get this at The Body Shop branches & kiosks. 250ml for 650 pesos

December 2016 Haul: Aquaphor, LUSH Cosmetics, Maybelline, Organic Alley & Pond’s

29 Dec

I knew I’m going to add more items after Christmas. I buy gifts for myself throughout the whole year. And because of that, natabunan na ako ng irereview. Hahaha. How about you, what did you get for yourself? 🙂

SKIN CARE

ORGANIC ALLEY Argan Oil
I was curious about argan oil. It’s non comedogenic compared to other oils. People also say that it absorbs quicker and doesnt leave oily residue. Pure argan oil is quite expensive here. Luckily, I came across a review on Organic Alley’s 100% Argan Oil. You can choose from two sizes. I got 30ml for 499 pesos at Sesou Glorietta. There’s 50ml for 750 pesos. You can also buy 10ml on their online store for 200 pesos. Full review soon!

ORGANIC ALLEY Acne & Scars Be Gone Clarifying Soap
I forgot to take a photo of this soap. I’m currently using it. I read its ingredients list and I think there’s nothing that could irritate  my skin. I can say that it’s one of my few trusted solid facial soaps. This one’s Php 250 for 100g. Full review soon!

AQUAPHOR Healing Ointment Advanced Therapy
I thought my skin was the same with my sister’s. She has sebbhoric dermatitis and her derma prescribed a steriod cream mixed with Aquaphor. I thought this would work but turns out I have contact dermatitis. I’ll try it for its other uses instead. Full review soon!

Contact Dermatitis relief from my derma
– Antihistamine
– Antibiotic astringent
– Beta-N Cream
– Moisturizing soap
All these work well. My skin calmed down after 3 days. Beta-N Cream and the antihistamine are the most effective. Clatidyne (Loratadine) was the medicine I took once a day for 10 days. Although I’m done with the medication, I’m still using the soap and antibiotic astringent.

MAKEUP

MAYBELLINE Clear Smooth All in One Powder
This is an improved version. I usually dont see a difference when they reformulate this powder. I ran out of my Detail Pressed Powder. I didnt have time to order online so I’m back to my first love.

TONY MOLY Delight Magic Lip Tint in 03
A gift from my sister. She knows I’m into korean cosmetics. I’m not sure about the price. Probably it’s around 200+ pesos. Full review soon!

POND’S Flawless White BB Cream
This was a requested product for review. I finally decided to get one. Pinays love its coverage and price. We’ll see if it will meet my standards. It’s 299 pesos. I saw a small tube too. It’s 8ml for 149 pesos at Mercury Drugs

BODY CARE

LUSH Maypole Soap & Serendipity Soap
My sister’s gifts. She chose the Maypole soap (225 pesos /100g). It has sweet scent just like Snow Fair Shower Gel. I chose Serendipity because of its lavender scent. I’m a sucker for lavender! It’s 245 pesos per 100g

That’s my hauliday! Tomorrow I’ll post my best products for this year. Hope you can check it out.☺

Face Masks under ₱500 ($10) for Oily & Acne-Prone Skin

8 Jul

Here’s another list for Under 500. I was looking for masks to try since my favorite is always out of stock. Can you guess what it is?

I prefer masks in tubs. You’ll get the most out of them. Usually they weigh 40-100g. That will last for 2-6 months or even more if used once or twice a week… especially those in powder form.

I selected products that I think have more beneficial ingredients for the skin compared to others. And by that I mean little or no chemicals. The best thing is 4 out of 5 products in this list are from Philippine/local brands.

Snoe White Vitamin C Rich Calamansi Detox Clay Mask (40g) – ₱249

63282272bf96f5135f75ae2413260adbCalamansi is rich in vitamin C and Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA). It is a natural astringent that can eliminate blackheads and can dry up pimples. This mas is made of pure botanicals, herbs and select ingredients like activated bamboo charcoal and kaolin. It absorbs impurities and control excess oil to detoxify and renew your skin from deep within. Revitalize skin and help protect against the appearance of aging.

Nekkid Manila Green Tea & Tea Tree Mud Mask (100g) – ₱400

5195529

The perfect mud mask for oily skin or acne-prone skin! This mud dries up and heals pimples fast without over drying the skin or dehydrating it which can cause more breakouts. Green Clay balances the skin and only attacks acne. What we love about this mask is that you can apply is for bacne (back-acne) as well! Ingredients: French Green Clay, Green Tea Leaves, Baking Soda, Tea Tree Essential Oil

Nekkid Manila Oatmeal & Chamomile Tea Mud Mask (100g) – ₱400

4397897
This is our original mask (and a best seller too!), a blend of colloidal oatmeal mixed with bentonite clay which is very hydrating to the skin. Ingredients: Colloidal Oatmeal, Bentonite Clay, Chamomile Tea Leaves, Chamomile Essential Oil, Chamomile Extract, Vitamin E

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay (454g) – ₱420

images
Clays have been used for centuries to beautify and refresh when used as a facial mask. This deep pore cleansing, 100% natural healing clay will leave your skin feeling refreshed and clear. 100% Bentonite Clay. Beneficial for facials, acne, body wraps, clay baths, foot soaks, chilled clay for knee packs. Can be used with water or apple cider vinegar. Available at Healthy Options.

Lush Cosmetics Mask of Magnaminty (120g) -₱425

00411
I had to include this. Of course it’s my favorite. Makes dirt a distant memory. It isn’t technically a daily ‘facial wash’; it’s actually a deep cleansing face and back mask. China clay and fresh peppermint reach deep down to pull the debris from your pores, giving you that delightful tingly-clean sensation. We add loads of aduki beans to exfoliate flaky or dry skin, vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe. Our inventors created this to be the ‘ultimate face mask’, intense but not harsh or abrasive on the skin.

Clay What You Want Whitening Detox Drying Mask (40g) – ₱499

40372561d84f5d78479d49c8e1b35126
A super-cleansing detox whitening mask that will help clear acne eruptions. This activated bamboo charcoal clay mask dries out existing pimples and oil and helps clarify problematic, acne-prone skin. Contains crown wood fern, moringa and tea tree oil.

Although they wont feel drying, remember they are all clay-based. Clays are very detoxifying. Depending on your skin, use them once or twice a week only even if you dont experience dryness. Just to maintain skin’s ph level while cleansing.

Beach Essentials – Boracay 2016

26 Jun

This is a late post for Philippines but summer just started in other countries. I have not posted any beach essential in 6 years of blogging. I’d like to thank my swimwear loving friend, Jessica of Adore Me for suggesting this. Yaaay!☺💖

Luckily, we’re in Boracay for the weekend. It’s my first time here and my first plane ride. Finally, I went out to see the sun. Hahaha. It was my sister’s treat for the family.

Many things to experience; Beach, sunset, food, music and outdoor activities. But we prepared the things we needed before that. We all want smooth and stress free vacation, right?

IMG_20160625_171456

Swimsuit, tops and board shorts

I’m not comfortable to wear swimsuits but this time I brought one for swimming… It’s a safe thing to wear to avoid problems with hotel and beach rules. I wear tops and board shorts if we’re just on the shore or going to the mall and restaurants at night. Here are some of the clothes I brought:
IMG_20160625_170513

Sunglasses & Cap

I cant live without sunglasses! My eyes are sensitive to light. I always bring one wherever I go. This time we brought four.😅 They avoid early signs of wrinkles too!

I always wear a cap whenever I’m on out of town. My forehead is dark compared to the rest of my face. It’s so weird. I dont want it to become darker

IMG_20160626_095850

Waterproof Dry Bag

Beach bags are usually made of cloth. They all look cute but we dont want our things to get wet. We dont need aesthetics. Haha! We bought a dry bag instead. Roll the end 3 times then lock it. Your things are safe and dry even if you go in the water.image2-1

Anklet

Anklets make a difference by adding style. It can also be a bracelet too. We found the old lady who’s a supplier of stores. We saved like 40 to 50 pesos. Thanks to her. Sorry for my hairy and sand-y legs. Haha!

Sunblock and Skin Care

Fair skin gets burned easily. Dermplus Spf 80 Sunblock for Kids is the cheapest thing we could find in the department store (50ml for P169). The description says it’s for face and body. Please remember, don’t stay too long under the sun even if you’re wearing skin protecting products.

Last but not least, skin care. We need to clean and rehydrate the skin too after a hot day. I followed the rules so I repackaged Wonder Pore (review here) and AC Clinic Gel (review here). I cut a chunk of Fresh Farmacy (review here).

IMG_20160626_095602

If I’m asked to recommend something in this post, I’d totally say Dermplus Sunblock and the Dry Bag.💗

By the way, I also included some photos for you to see. The beach at 1pm, me flaunting the dry bag and the sunset. The guides said it’s packed in the afternoon. They were right.😅 Luckily we’re morning persons/people and we already enjoyed the water.

May 2016 Favorites

3 Jun

I’m still going through my stash. I have a long way to go! I told my sister to use them too but she said it’s too much work. Well, it really is when you think about it. But it wouldnt be a problem once you get used to it.

IMG_20160602_174121

Skin Care

Clobetasol with Aquaphor Cream
This is a life savior for our eczema/dermatitis. It calms severe flare ups all the time. Severe meaning the skin is red, crusty and wet at the same time. It subsides in just 3 to 5 days. It also takes away the redness.

Hydrocortisone Cream
After a sever flare up, this is the prescribed med by my sister’s dermatologist. It is used for 3 to 5 days too. I actually use this on a daily basis for maintenance. It does a good job.

RUCY’S VANITY Whitening Serum
My face is lighter than the rest of my body including the neck. I’ve been neglecting it so might as well moisturize it twice a day too. I cant use AC Clinic Daily Gel Lotion  for the area because it has alcohol. This serum has the right consistency. It’s very moisturizing without feeling heavy. This is available at selected supermarkets, Rucy’s Vanity kiosks and website [click here].

TONY MOLY Tomatox Massage Pack
Still one of Tony Moly’s bestsellers. You can literally see your skin is brightened after using it. Just a tip, use this continuously to have a long term effect. Little goes a long way so every cent is totally worth it. This is also available on Q-Depot’s website.

Body Care

LUSH New Charity Pot Hand & Body Lotion
I know a lot of you might be tired of seeing Lush products in my posts. I’m sorry. I just couldn’t help it. This lotion is legit! It’s made from butters and oils unlike chemical-based lotions. You’re sure that it’s safe. I like to use this on my hand after washing 10x a day. I use this at night for the whole body as a treat.

THE FACE SHOP Kakao Friends Apeach Hand Cream [Cherry Blossom]
I use this the most as you can see in the photo above. It’s very light and non greasy. I love cherry blossom scent too! It smells sweet, flowery but not overpowering. I like that it’s in a small tube. I might bring another hand cream for our beach trip this month.

I apologize if you think the products in my posts are repetitive. Going through our stash is very important. You’re less likely to hoard if you know what you have. Btw, I’ll be posting a tag tomorrow especially for Filipinos.☺

Updated Skin Care Routine – May 2016

27 May

Hello everybody! I updated my skin care routine because I had to. The weather seriously affected my skin. The temperature in Manila is usually up to 35 °C (92°F) and the heat index can go up to 40°C or 100 °F. As a result, I have sebbohreic dermatitis

My sister has dermatitis too. Her dermatologist prescribed cleanser and creams. She allowed me to use them too.

IMG_20160527_202145

CLEANSERS:

Ceramide Cleanser
A skin with dermatitis lacks ceramide which is needed to moisturize skin’s layers. It’s a support to lessen dryness and crustiness. I’m thankful because my sister shared this. She got this in her dermatologist’s clinic at Makati Med.

Lush Fresh Farmacy
I use this when I’ve worn makeup on a long day. It makes me feel clean! Full review here

MASK:

Lush Mask of Magnaminty
The best face mask I’ve tried. I keep coming back to it although it’s always out of stock. I told the SA it’s so hard to get one and asked when it is usually available. She said it’s either every month or every two months. Full review here

TONER:

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner
I’m on my 2nd bottle. It’s refreshing and doesnt dry out my skin. I still moisturize after because it has alcohol. That’s known for pore minimizing. It doesnt help with my pores though. Full review here

MOISTURIZERS:

Etude House AC Clinic Gel Lotion
I use this for the rest of my face. I’m on my 2nd bottle now. I couldnt find any dupe for it. It’s lightweight and hydrates my acne prone skin. Full review here

Clobetasol with Aquaphor Cream
This is for severe dermatitis flare ups. It’s applied twice a day on the affected areas for 3-5 days.

Hydrocortisone Cream
It’s applied when dermatitis flare ups are subsided/mild. It’s also applied twice a day on affected areas for 3-5 days. I’m using this as maintenance too.

Skin will look normal again once a flare up is gone. There is no cure for Dermatitis. All we can do is to control it by soothing and calming it. Extreme heat, sweat, health and intestine problems are some of the causes. Avoid everything that can trigger it because it’s really difficult to calm it down. It takes 3 to 7 days in our case.
