Review: Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Facial Wash

18 Jun

This is my first “drugstore” cleanser for this year and first Indian brand as well. Meaning it’s something you could easily get almost anywhere. I bought a small tube in SM Department Store. It’s been three weeks already. I think I’m ready to share my experience with it.

Description:
Purifying Neem Face Wash is loaded with the natural goodness of neem, a time-tested natural ingredient revered for its antibacterial property, which keeps Pimples at bay! It is also enriched with Turmeric, an antiseptic agent that soothes skin, leaving it healthy, clean and radiant! Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash, is a soap-free herbal face wash that helps prevent pimples by removing impurities, unclogging pores, while being extremely gentle on skin as it is formulated with 100% herbal actives and is free from skin harming chemicals like Paraben, SLS/ SLES. Daily use of this face wash avoids deposition of pimple-causing bacteria, oil and dirt and prevents occurrence of pimples. This face wash is suitable for all skin types (normal, oily, combination, sensitive) & is best for acne-prone

Ingredients:image

Pros:
– Affordable, 50 grams for 69 pesos at Watsons
– Simple tube packaging, no spills
– Love the fragrance
– SLS-free
– Milky lather
– Non drying
– Doesn’t leave film or sticky residue
– Did not cause breakouts
– Did not trigger contact dermatitis

Cons:
– Didn’t do anything on existing breakouts

image

I brought this for our Hong Kong trip. The tube had no spills. It has milky and powdery scent which reminds me of Lactacyd. It doesn’t have a rich lather because it’s SLS-free… But it’s enough for cleansing in my opinion. It doesnt leave sticky or slimy film when rinsed. It’s very affordable and accessible. You can get this in supermarkets, drugstores and department stores.

Neem extract is new to me so I was quite nervous to try this facial wash. Thank goodness it did not cause purging unlike other cleansers. I first knew about Neem extract from Phina’s Little Factory Cure Soap…which I’m planning to buy soon. I think this cleanser did not heal my existing breakouts. That’s the only down side I could give. So I’d recommend this for sensitive skin, mild acne and for maintenance.

Have you tried this product? What’s your all time favorite cleanser?

Review: The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

4 Jun

I was introduced to this brand a few months ago. Thanks to youtubers especially to Wayne Goss. I visited Deciem’s website and viewed their products. I carefully chose the products that I think would work best for me. One of those is Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.

image

Description:
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10% concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.

Contraindications: If topical Vitamin C is used as part of skincare, it should be applied at alternate times with this formula (ideally Vitamin C in the PM and this formula in the AM). Otherwise, Niacinamide can affect integrity of pure-form Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid).

Directions:
Apply to entire face morning and evening before heavier creams.

Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Niacinamide, Pentylene Glycol, Zinc PCA, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Xanthan Gum, Isoceteth-20, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Pros:
– Simple frosted glass packaging
– Straight to the point product name
– Affordable
– Oil free, silicone free, paraben free
– Watery serum
– No sticky residue
– Feels light on the skin
– Did not trigger contact dermatitis
– Did not cause breakouts
– Tightening effect
– Brightens skin tone
– Somehow healed new breakouts from my period

Cons:
– Skin looks shiny after application
– Little or no improvement on dark spots

Let’s discuss the cons first. I cant tell if it made improvements on my dark spots. Maybe it’s because mine are deep into dermis layer. I know it’s oil free but it makes my skin look shiny after application. Like it’s really polished and edited. I know that’s a good thing but I wasnt ready for that. Haha! It’s unreal. I look like the handsome Squidward below.

I’m liking their packaging and straight to the point product names. I already know its purpose and what are its actives. It’s intimidating for people who are new into skin care. But trust me, we don’t need cheesy names like “Bouncy Skin Moisturizing Cream”. Sorry I just made that name. I’m cringing but I hope you got my point. Haha!

image

The serum is watery and it feels light on the skin. It doesn’t leave any sticky residue. Castor oil has a chance of blocking pores and a lot of moisturizers have it. Thank goodness this one is oil free! That’s actually the main reason why I bought this. It helps to heal breakouts from monthly period. I’m glad it didnt trigger my contact dermatitis. So it’s safe to say that it can be used on sensitive skin. My face is brighter and looks alive. I’ve also experienced tightening effect especially on the forehead area. It’s like botox. Overall, this is a great moisturizer for oily skin. It’s very affordable and high quality. I’d repurchase this again.☺

Review: MUMUSO Cleansing Wipes

15 Apr

Mumuso and Miniso are already popular for pinay beauty junkies. At first I was confused. Thanks to a blogger who explained their difference. Miniso is a japanese brand while Mumuso is korean. These stores are like the drugstore Muji.

Mumuso has wide makeup and skin care range. You know what that means. I have to try them personally. I went to their store in Venice Grand Canal Mall. I’m surprised that most of the items are 99 pesos only. I bought this pink cleansing wipes and the aloe variant which my sister gave for my birthday.

Pros:
– Accessible, Mumuso is still adding up stores in the metro
– Very affordable, 99 pesos ($2) for 2 packs.
– Has hard plastic lid
– Each pack has 30 sheets.
– Powdery scent
– Did not cause breakouts
– Thick sheets
– Completely removes my medium-coverage makeup

Cons:
– The sheets might not be moist enough to remove heavy/full coverage makeup

It did not cause breakouts or contact dermatitis. Yay, answered prayers!😛 It has powdery scent, k-brands refer to it as cotton. Its hard plastic lid ensures that the tissues will stay moist. The tissue is thick enough to remove my medium coverage makeup. Here’s my makeup routine if you’re wondering: cream concealer ➡ powder foundation (applied with sponge) ➡ brow pencil ➡ lip tint/lipstick.

So if you’re a full face type of person (primer, foundation, powder, eyeshadow, setting spray and etc.), you might need two sheets to completely remove your makeup. That’ll be too much work in my opinion. But the price can’t be beaten. 99 pesos for 60 sheets? This is my new favorite. I recommend it for light to medium coverage makeup.

Review: T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel

18 Mar

Hi readers, did you miss me? Haha. I was on a short break from blogging. I needed to sort all my new product reviews. My last post was a hit. And in relation to that, I’ll talk about my #1 favorite toner. Last month I bought a tiny bottle of T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel. People are raving about it. I wanted to know what’s so good about it. I’m using this for 1 month+ now.

Description:
The only 100% natural astringent that effectively cleanses, soothes and treats everyday skin irritations, without overdrying or leaving behind irritating residue.

Ingredients:
All natural witch hazel (100%)

Pros:
– Affordable, 58ml for 85 pesos & 237ml for 269 pesos
– Available locally at Healthy Options branches
– Has one ingredient only
– Watery
– Non-drying
– No film & no sticky residue
– Adds little hydration
– Stops the blemish from getting bigger
– Helps to heal acne / breakouts

Cons:
– None

Neutral:
– Has medicine-like scent

I’m sure you’ve heard about this product. I’m very happy that it’s affordable. It’s actually cheap compared to other toners I’ve used before. It’s pure witch hazel and that’s equivalent to 14% alcohol. That’s enough to cleanse the skin without causing dryness. Great toner if you’re into a minimalist routine. It’s non drying. It hydrates my skin without leaving film or stickiness.

I still get breakouts when I’m on my period. But I observed this toner helps to heal them in a few days, the fastest is 2 days. You know that a spot going to be a cystic acne when it starts to hurt. In my experience, this toner stops that from happening. I highly recommend it for normal to oily skin. You can get this at Healthy Options.

What’s your favorite toner?

Review: Quick FX Pimple Eraser

16 Oct

I see sachets of Quick FX and Beauty Fix in most Watsons stores. Sakto, I’m looking for a spot treatment for my recent breakout. As a cheapskate, I always look for cheaper alternative before buying expensive ones. Last month, I bought a sachet of Quick FX Pimple Eraser together with Beauty Fix Nose Pack. This is delayed post again because I needed 3 weeks to fully observe its performance. You guys know skin care products take longer to review than makeup. 🙂

Description:
Helps to dry up and diminish pimples. Reduces dark spots due to scarring, helps protect skin against the sun. With Glycolic Acid that rejuvenates and evens out skin tone. With Salicylic Acid that helps prevent and treat acne. With Zinc Oxide that helps control inflammations and relieves skin against irritation and rash.

Ingredients & Instructions:

Pros:
-Affordable, 50 pesos ($1) for 10g
-Accessible, available in most Watsons stores
-Sachet-type packaging with cap for no spills
-Did not cause irritations
-No stings
-No sticky feeling
-Has Salicylic Acid and Glycolic acid as anti bacterial while Niacinamide for brightening
-Helps to dry up acne, small or cystic ones

Cons:
-Has lots of comedogenic ingredients like Myristic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid and Cetearyl Alcohol. Mineral Oil and Cetearyl Alcohol are some of its main ingredients

I still included comedogenic ingredients as a con for you guys who are bothered by them. I was skeptical to buy one in the store when I saw its ingredients. Our skins are differen so reactions will vary for all products. Now here’s what it looks like. It’s a lotion-y type spot treatment. No sticky or oily feeling. I apply it as directed. Dab it on the pimple and let it absorb.

image2

I find it effective whether I got a small pimple or cystic acne. I can see progress each day when I apply it. In my experience it usually takes 2 days only for a cystic acne to dry up. To me that’s fast compared to other spot treatments. There are times that it can cause mild peeling and I like it. That’s when you know its salicylic acid is working. It minimizes the risk of getting dark marks. It’s important for my thin skin because I get hyperpigmentation easily. Overall, it’s effective for me aside from that it’s really affordable. I’m glad I came across this great product.

Face Masks under ₱500 ($10) for Oily & Acne-Prone Skin

8 Jul

Here’s another list for Under 500. I was looking for masks to try since my favorite is always out of stock. Can you guess what it is?

I prefer masks in tubs. You’ll get the most out of them. Usually they weigh 40-100g. That will last for 2-6 months or even more if used once or twice a week… especially those in powder form.

I selected products that I think have more beneficial ingredients for the skin compared to others. And by that I mean little or no chemicals. The best thing is 4 out of 5 products in this list are from Philippine/local brands.

Lush Cosmetics Mask of Magnaminty (120g) -₱425

I had to include this. Of course it’s my favorite. Makes dirt a distant memory. It isn’t technically a daily ‘facial wash’; it’s actually a deep cleansing face and back mask. China clay and fresh peppermint reach deep down to pull the debris from your pores, giving you that delightful tingly-clean sensation. We add loads of aduki beans to exfoliate flaky or dry skin, vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe. Our inventors created this to be the ‘ultimate face mask’, intense but not harsh or abrasive on the skin.

Although they wont feel drying, remember they are all clay-based. Clays are very detoxifying. Depending on your skin, use them once or twice a week only even if you dont experience dryness. Just to maintain skin’s ph level while cleansing.

First Impression: Etude House AC Clinic Intense Pink Powder Patch

9 Apr

This week’s theme is spot treatment again.

I want my body to heal acne naturally but I’ve been slacking on vegetarian lifestyle. I stopped taking my multivitamins too. So I broke out again, mostly whiteheads.

What a great excuse to try another patch.😂 An impulse buy and a gift from my sis. This is just a first impression post because a whole packet lasted for only 3 nights in my case.
