Updated Skin Care Routine – May 2017

20 May

It took months to revamp my routine. Changing products should be one at a time. That’s the most important thing we should remember in cosmetics. Doing so will help you determine the culprit when you have irritations/breakouts. It’s confusing if you’ll use all the new products you’ve bought. The last time I updated my routine was in August 2016. I must say it changed a lot.

Skinlite & Mumuso Makeup Cleansing Tissues

I’m still using the same makeup remover. I prefer wipes because I’m a lazy person. They both do the job for me. They completely remove my everyday makeup (bb cream, concealer, lipstick and brow pencil). Note that I do not use eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, bronzer, highlighter. Full review here & here.

Zenutrients Soothing Green Tea Glycerin Soap

My recent review was about this soap. It’s a maintenance soap. Green tea is good for calming and smells fresh. Ideal for sensitive skin and those who have mild to no breakouts. My 138 pesos was worth it. It’s very affordable. It doesnt melt easily. I’m also using this on the body depending on my mood. Full review here

Aztec Secret Healing Clay Mask

I dont even know when will I finish a tub of this. It’s HUGE! I havent even used 1/4 of it. It’s pure and effective for oily skin. I only use this twice a month because it’s too strong for me. It’s best rinsed with warm water. You can use mix it with plain water or apple cider vinegar if you do not have sensitive skin. Full review here

T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel

This is probably my holy grail toner. It has one ingredient only. That’s 14% of alcohol. Gentle and effective enough to remove dirt. It’s just like water. No stickiness and film. It’s very affordable too. I think this 237ml is 270 pesos at Healthy Options branches. Full review here

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%

I gave in to the Youtube trend. I bought some products from The Ordinary. The brand caught my attention because of their ingredients and straight-to-the-point product names. We don’t need cheesy marketing names, right?โ˜บย Lactic Acid 10% is first on my list. I used this for one week (every other day). I noticed superficial peeling. It’s been a month now and my skin is still peeling. I use this as spot treatment only. Mainly for dark spots and pimples. Full review coming soon!

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

My second product from the brand is their Niacinamide serum. It’s ideal for brightening and for oily and acne prone skin. It has a very light consistency. I’m using this for 2 weeks now. Same with Lactic Acid 10%, it’s too early to tell its effects. But I’m liking it so far. Full review coming soon!

Organic Alley Argan Oil

This is the safest oil for oily skin. It’s doesnt block pores unlike other oils. Im using this at night. Mostly when I feel dehydrated. It makes my skin glowy. I use this daily under my eyes and on the cheek bones. It helps to smoothen out skin. I find it easier to apply makeup over this. Full review here

Beta-N Cream

What is Beta N? According to NetDoctor, “Betamethasone and neomycin cream is used in short courses to treat inflammatory skin conditions (like eczema, dermatitis, rashes) when milder corticosteroids have not been effective and when the condition is either already infected or likely to become infected.” This is our ride or die. If ever my contact dermatitis flares up, I apply this cream. It calms the skin even in one use. It’s very effective. I can’t live without it.

This is the best routine I’ve got so far. What’s your holy grail skin care? Please share them below so we can all check it out.๐Ÿ˜Š

Pure Argan Oil: My New Favorite!

23 Apr

Hello readers. I was “MIA” because now I’m totally in control of my buying behavior. I’ll discuss that in another post. But today, I’ll share my new holy grail skin care. *drum roll please* It’s pure argan oil!

Why did I decide to use this? Although I have oily skin, I need deep treatment and hydration at night to avoid wrinkles at a young age. I searched for non comedogenic oils that can be used on oily skin. Argan is on the list. It’s actually affordable if you buy from our local brands like Organic Alley. I made a list of tips and brands where you can get this oil below 1000 pesos. Click here.

PROS:
– Affordable, 30ml for 499 pesos
– Little goes a long way
– I personally like its nutty scent
– Did not make my skin oilier
– Did not cause breakouts
– It does help with healing blemishes
– Deep hydration
– Skin is soft and smooth after application
– Gives me glowing skin, no need for highlighters!

CONS:
– If you’re living in a tropical country like me, this moisturizer might be heavy for day time. But you can get away if you’re staying in an airconditioned place like school or office.

I read on another post that argan oil also has sun protecting properties and that’s great. This will instantly give you radiant glow. You just need a little amount for the whole face. It is absorbed in 3 to 5 minutes. Apply some on your cheek bones and you won’t need a highlighter. Dab a tissue after and proceed to your makeup routine. You can mix it in your foundation too if you have dry skin.

Here’s a sample photo. *please excuse my brows* You can see the glow even if I applied matte powder foundation using a sponge.

My oily skin loves this as night treatment. I focus on wrinkle-prone areas like undereye, nasal folds and smile lines. It hydrates my skin without causing breakouts. I like to use it especially after my pure clay mask. It helps to dry blemishes in less than a week. Not as fast as chemical-based products but it does the job. Skin feels soft and smoother, that’s most noticeable result that you can get from this. I highly recommend it for all skin types.

My Top 5 Makeup Removers

18 Feb

I’ve been doing reviews since this year has started. Honestly, I’m already getting tired of it. So we’ll do the Top 5 series this week. I’ve tried a lot of makeup removers since I got into skin care. I have extremely oily and sensitive skin that’s prone to breakouts. I’m skeptical to use new products. Most of them are okay and some became my favorite. For the past six years, here are the products I’d gladly repurchase.

Skinlite Make-up Cleansing Tissues

image

I’m using this for 2 years now since I couldn’t find Purederm’s Acne Cleansing Wipes. It has green tea, chamomile, sage,ย  lavender, rosemary, aloe, ginseng and allantoin for cleansing. Its size, texture and performance are the same with Purederm’s. No breakouts too. I usually get mine in the beauty section of Landmark Makati. 30 sheets for Php 89

Etude House Every Month Cleansing Tissues

image

This has many cleansing ingredients too. It’s packed withย broccoli, tea tree, garlic, camellia leaf, apple, rice bran, aloe, avocado, blueberry, oatmeal, spinach, cucumber, walnut & wine extracts. What I like most about itย is its size. It’s bigger compared to other makeup wipes. One sheet is actually big for my full face makeup. I could get the most out of it and remove everything. Available at your local Etude House branches and kiosks. 15 sheets for Php 128 / 50 sheets for Php 248

Purederm Acne-Cleansing Wipes

image

I think this is phased out already but this was my first ever favorite. The cloths are moist enough to remove my full face makeup. It had no specific scent in my opinion. I was using this when I had many breakouts. It did not aggravate my acne. I remember this was under 100 pesos too.

Loreal Refreshing Micellar Water

img_1979

My first micellar water. It has minimal ingredients. It really feels refreshing while you’re wiping off makeup. It feels like I’ve already washed my face. No sticky feeling. It says no need to rinse but I still proceed to my face wash and other steps because we can’t skip those. I didn’t break out while using this. This is good for 6 months use after opening. 250ml for Php 225

Etude House Real Art Cleansing Oil – Moisture

images

Cleansing oils are for heavy duty makeup. I’ve only used one and it’s from Etude House. I followed the instructions after I posted my full review on this. The results were better. My makeup melted away plus it foams up when rinsed with water. It added moisture to my skin. A great prep step especially if you’re using a drying face wash. Little goes a long way. It has a light lemon scent. It did not cause breakouts. 185ml for Php 848

Review + Swatches: Tony Moly Delight Magic Lip Tint in 03

12 Feb

It’s been a while since I talked about Tony Moly. This was the second korean brand that I got hooked with. I’ve always wanted to try their lip tints. My sister gave me one in 03 Red Berry. Yes, again. She’s really not into these colors. Haha! Welp, more for me! This will be a quick review since there isn’t ,uch to talk about lip tints in general.๐Ÿ˜›

image

Description:
A clear gel-type tint moistures the lips with the ingredient extracted from the berries and turns your lip color into a gorgeous deep pink after putting on.

image

Pros:
– Cute packaging
– Smells like berry
– Affordable, 228 pesos
– Did not cause dryness
– Long lasting

Cons:
– Quite sticky

Swatch:image

There are many reasons why it’s one of their bestsellers. It has a simple but cute packaging. We cant analyze the ingredients. I couldn’t find the ingredients list on their website. It smells good and I want to eat it. Haha! It’s affordable and long lasting. I swatched it on my arm and tried to remove it with running water. I had to rub it and use a cloth. It adds a little moisture so it did not cause chapped lips. The only con I have for this is it’s quite sticky. I think it helps with longevity. I recommend it for everyday use. This is for any occassion especially if you want a gift under 500 pesos.โ˜บ

Review + Swatches: Maybelline Lip Flush in RD03

11 Feb

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. So this week is for lip colors. This is perfect if you want to get that kissable lips in time for Feb. 14. Hahaha. I don’t, I just want to add life to my pale lips. Lip Flush is a dupe for Laneige’s Two-Tone Lip Bars. Well, you have to be realistic with these lippies. Color pay off depends on your natural lip color. I’m not into that style but my sister gave this to me so why not?

image

Description:
Get just the right touch of sensuous shine with our Lip Flush lipsticks! Get a sensuous sheer pout in 1 swipe! Infused with natural food grade pigments. Ultra creamy formula with shea butter for 12 hours moisture.

How to use:
STEP 1: Start at the center of your upper lips to the outer corners of your mouth.
STEP 2: Finish by gliding across the entire bottom lip.

Ingredients:screenshot_2017-02-08-11-01-14-1

image

Pros:
– Affordable, 299 pesos for 3.9 grams
– Packaging is nice and the lid doesn’t loosen up
– Smells like cherry
– Has natural color selection for everyday use
– Glides smoothly
– Has a bit glossy finish
– Great color payoff

Cons:
– Can accentuate dry lips just like other products
– Doesnt last long depending on your activities

Swatches:
imageI know it claims to have shea butter for moisturizing. Always remember, don’t rely on makeup such as lip sticks/glosses if you have dry lips. That is solved with body hydration and skin care lip balms. It doesnt last long on me because I eat and drink a lot in a day and I have the habit of lip biting.

Now let’s move to the positives. I like the idea of this lipstick. You dont need to apply concealer. Unlike the traditional gradient style where watery lip tint is used. That method is quite messy in my opinion. K-drama fans are looking for this. I think 299 pesos is a steal. The one from Laneige is so expensive.

I like the packaging of Maybelline lipsticks in general. The lids don’t loosen up even if you use them daily. It’s secure in my makeup bag. The colors of this range leans to natural colors. They’re not distracting for everyday use at school or work. It has glossy finish which helps to slightly moisturize my lips.

I dont use this for its purpose. I blend it instead. The darkest color in RD03 gives life to my lips. I observed even women are looking at my lips. Maybe they want to ask what I’m wearing. Hahaha! I highly recommend this for daily use and for k-beauty addicts.

Review: Sooper Beaute Pimple Away Day Cream

5 Feb

Yesterday, we reviewed body care products. Continuing our local theme this week with Sooper Beaute’s spot treatment. I found out about this brand from Instagram reviewers. I have read a lot of positive feedbacks. BeautyMNL reached out to me before and they gave products of my choice. And as usual, I wanted skin care. I found this day cream when it was on sale. I got it for 100 pesos.

-Affordable, 100 pesos when it was on sale. Original price is 120 pesos for 10 grams.
-Didย not cause irritations/contact dermatitis
-Little goes a long way
-Has many natural antibacterial ingredients
-Helps to minimize small acne

Cons:
-Tub is too big for product’s actual amount
-Need to pat a few times to be absorbed
-Not effective for cystic/big acne
-Label was difficult to read

img_20170205_154352_912

Am I satisfied? On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate it a 7. Natural ingredients take some time to be effective but they’re safer than chemicals. I did not expect that it will make a difference even in small blemishes. I was wrong. It’s effective for small ones. I did not see drastic change on cystic acne though.

I experienced mild peeling on spots where I applied it. Is it just me? I like the peeling because it minimizes hyperpigmentation. It has citrus limon. I assume it’s included for its cleansing ability, not as fragrance. The cream has mild scent but I couldn’t describe what exactly it is. Dont worry because it will be gone once absorbed. Another plus for not causing irritation. With the results I got, I’d recommend it for those with mild acne. You can get this on SooperBeaute.com or BeautyMNL.com

The last con has nothing to do with the product’s performance. But when it comes to packaging, color combination is important so the texts are easy to read. The label has yellow background, the product name should be pink or dark colored instead of white.

Review + Before & After: Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Oil Control Two-Way Cake

22 Jan

I switched back to my all time favorite powder from Maybelline. I was surprised it’s now a two-way cake. You can use it dry or with a wet sponge. I was bothered at first because my dermatologist told me to stay away from two-way powders as it’s heavy for the skin. I want coverage so I’m still using it anyway.

image

Description:
Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One is a shine-free powder foundation that provides good coverage and keeps you looking naturally beautiful.

Ingredients:
Talc, Perlite, Titanium Dioxide [Nano] / Titanium Dioxide, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Dimethicone, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Silica, Methicone, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Squalane, Parfum / Fragrance, Tocopherol, Linalool, Bht, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, Citronellol, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnama

I got the lightest shade, 02 Nude Beige

image

Pros:
-Affordable, refill is 169 pesos for 9g
-Accessible, you can get it in department stores, drugstores and supermarkets
-Can be used wet or dry
-Has SPF 32
-Has more coverage than the old formula
-Light to medium coverage
-Great for setting makeup
-Didnt cause breakouts

Cons:
-Might get cakey
-Might feel heavy for others
-Need more shades

Before and after:image

It can get cakey depending on the base/foundation you’re using. Use a brush instead if your liquid foundation is already mattifying. Just be careful as it can be “too matte” if applied with the sponge. We know too much matte can suck the life out of our skin. Apply highlighter if needed. It felt heavy the first time I used this Maybelline powder. I got used to it and it doesnt bother me anymore.

I noticed that it gives more coverage than the old formula. Take note that I’m applying it dry with sponge. I just used a wet sponge in this review to test its coverage alone. You can get light to medium coverage. It’s great that they didnt change the price! This variant only has 4 colors until now. Lightest shade is a bit dark on me. More skin tones should have this great stuff. This is still the best powder in my book. Hands down.
