Review + Before & After: Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Oil Control Two-Way Cake

22 Jan

I switched back to my all time favorite powder from Maybelline. I was surprised it’s now a two-way cake. You can use it dry or with a wet sponge. I was bothered at first because my dermatologist told me to stay away from two-way powders as it’s heavy for the skin. I want coverage so I’m still using it anyway.

Pros:
-Affordable, refill is 169 pesos for 9g
-Accessible, you can get it in department stores, drugstores and supermarkets
-Can be used wet or dry
-Has SPF 32
-Has more coverage than the old formula
-Light to medium coverage
-Great for setting makeup
-Didnt cause breakouts

Cons:
-Might get cakey
-Might feel heavy for others
-Need more shades

Before and after:image

It can get cakey depending on the base/foundation you’re using. Use a brush instead if your liquid foundation is already mattifying. Just be careful as it can be “too matte” if applied with the sponge. We know too much matte can suck the life out of our skin. Apply highlighter if needed. It felt heavy the first time I used this Maybelline powder. I got used to it and it doesnt bother me anymore.

I noticed that it gives more coverage than the old formula. Take note that I’m applying it dry with sponge. I just used a wet sponge in this review to test its coverage alone. You can get light to medium coverage. It’s great that they didnt change the price! This variant only has 4 colors until now. Lightest shade is a bit dark on me. More skin tones should have this great stuff. This is still the best powder in my book. Hands down.

Review: Detail MakeOver Mineral Pressed Powder in Fair

6 Nov

This is just my second time to use a local brand this year. Wow, I’m really good at doing my 2016 New Year’s Resolution, huh? πŸ˜… I was looking for something that could replace my ride or die powder foundation, Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Foundation. Last month, BeautyMNL got in touch with me to try their shop. I found out about Detail a.k.a. Detail Make Over on their website. I’m glad I did. Read the rest of this post to find out.πŸ˜‰Β P.S. I did not edit the other photos’ brightness and contrast so you’ll get the shade reference.

Pros:
-Very affordable, 10 grams for only 199 pesos ($4)
– Nice packaging, has mirror and compartment for the sponge
-Few ingredients
-Fragrance free
-Fair matches my skin tone really well
-Little goes a long way
-Helps to minimize pores, not completely but it helps.
-Completely matte and has slight airbrush finish
-Feels light on the skin
-Has good oil control. That’s surprising because I have extremely oily skin.

Cons:
-Can be chalky if applied too much
-Can settle in creases

I am surprised that this amazing product is 199 pesos only. You’ll get 10 grams compared to other powders. Its packaging has a compartment for the applicator. It has few ingredients so there’s less chance of irritation. I only need to swipe the sponge on the powder a few times to completely cover my entire face. This does not give coverage but it’s good for setting makeup. You can use this alone and you’re good to go. Lucky you, you have clear skin.πŸ˜€ I noticed that it can help to minimize pores. Again, not completely but the change in their size is noticeable.

I love this mineral pressed powder because it’s lightweight on the skin. It’s like I’m not wearing anything. I’m also surprised it has good oil control. I have extremely oily and sweaty skin. I would normally blot my face every 30 minutes but not with this powder. I only blot every 2 hours, max.😍

I highly recommend it for oily skin! This is matte and has slight airbrush finish. If you still want to try it and you have dry skin, make sure you moisturize properly first. Apply it using a brush instead of the sponge. For dry to normal skin, you might want to consider applying highlighter. Or you can wait for your skin to oil up just like my skin to still get your “natural hightlight”. We don’t want to look flat.πŸ˜‰

Now the real question is… did this beat my ride or die Maybelline Powder Foundation? I have to say yes!!

Review: Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Foundation (To Go)

16 Mar

Hello ladies! Summer vacation is finally here. My posts are delayed so Im glad that I already have time to do some blogging. πŸ™‚

I already reviewed the refill type of this. You just might be interested with this one because this is much affordable compared to the original size. I bought the nude beige shade. πŸ™‚

Image

Here are the directions and ingredients. I see talc, paraben and fragrance which are some of the ingredients that I would like to avoid. :O

Image

Here’s the packaging. It comes with a small round sponge and a mirror. πŸ™‚

Image

The coverage can be light to medium. It depends on how you would apply it. If you want light coverage for setting makeup, you can use a brush. But if you want medium coverage, use the sponge included. If you have flaws like me, better use concealer because this won’t do alone. πŸ™‚

Pros:

  • Can be bought at malls, Watsons, SM department stores and SM supermarket
  • It’s really “to go”. It is easy to carry and put inside the bag
  • Affordable. I bought this at Php 99 which is approximately $2.50
  • Comes with a sponge
  • Comes with a mirror unlike the refill type.
  • Can last up to 1-2 months although it’s small
  • Light to medium coverage

Cons:

  • Contains talc, paraben, fragrance
  • Can’t cover dark spots. I still have to use concealer.
  • Feels a bit heavy on the skin

Although there are ingredients that I’m avoiding, I like this one because it fits my needs. It provides enough coverage if paired with my concealer. It’s affordable which is important to students like me. I will repurchase this IF I still can’t find a better and affordable foundation with less harmful ingredients. Have you tried this one?
