Review: Skin Potions Snowberry Sleeping Cream Mask

3 Aug

Have you heard about Skin Potions? It was one of the suggested people on my Instagram. I checked out their products and of course I had to start with their bestseller. I ordered a tub on BeautyMNL. Snowberry Sleeping Cream is raved by local bloggers. I saw a review with before and after photos. This product helped to lighten her dark spots. You know I’m all about that. Haha!

– Little goes a long way
– Smells great!
– Matt finish
– Can be used on targeted areas
– Moisturizes skin really well
– Lightened some spots

Cons:
– Triggered my contact dermatitis
– Can make you look ghostly white
– Not effective for deep spots
– No full ingredients list

Neutral:
– Has SPF

It costs 450 pesos for 50 grams. It smells like strawberry. I wanted to eat it when I smelled it for the first time. Haha! It comes in a pink plastic tub. I didn’t have a problem with leakage. The cream is thick and can be used as spot treatment too as seen in the photo below. I only need a pea size amount for the whole face. That size is enough to moisturize my skin. It also lighted some of my spots that were not deep. Meaning those spots in the epidermis layer only.

IMG_20170803_175522_620

Now for the cons, I was hoping it wont trigger the areas where I have dermatitis (cheeks and forehead). Sadly, I always get itchy on those areas while I was using this cream. I dont want to waste this so I’m dabbing it on spots instead of applying on the whole face. Don’t overdo the application. It can make you look ghostly white whether you have fair or dark tones. I have pale skin and use this at night only. The active ingredients are on the label. That’s not enough for me. I need the full ingredients list. I cant find it online either. My tub expires in 2019. There must be a preservative in it.

Neutral, it claims to have SPF. The name is sleeping cream mask. So for me it’s automatic to use at night. Sunscreen can irritate skin if used while you’re sleeping. That’s the time your skin needs to breathe and repair. SPF is ideal for daytime.

Do I recommend this? Yes, for those who don’t have sensitive skin and not prone to intense hyperpigmentation. It wont be enough for those who easily get deep and dark spots like me. It is affordable, locally made and many people swear by it. It just didnt work on me. Here’s a tip. You can get it for a lower price during their bazaars and BeautyMNL sales.

Beauty products used by the Titas of Manila

27 May

I grew up with my titas (aunts) around me. I’ve seen the products they were using 15 years ago. They all made me curious but I never had the courage to try them before. I decided to post this to reminisce my childhood with you guys and introduce these products to our foreign readers.☺

Chin Chan Su

This little pink container was always on my tita’s vanity table. She applied this daily and  it has instant whitening effect. Its texture and look reminds me of a stick concealer. You should apply it in small amounts to make sure your face will still match with your neck’s color. You can get this at Mercury Drugstore for less than 20 pesos.

Perla

A dual function soap that’s available at supermarkets. It is originally marketed as a detergent bar for clothes. It’s also widely known as face and body soap. People claim it has mild formula because of the coconut base. I remember we made soap sculptures using this in primary school (elementary).

Eskinol Facial Cleanser

This is a toner applied after cleansing and before moisturizing. I started to use the anti acne variant when I was 15 years old. My aunt has the whitening variant. That one has powder at the bottom. You have to shake the bottle first. Gently swipe it with a cotton ball/pad. This is a staple for some. I can still see titas buying this although it’s marketed for younger generation (teens to early 20s) now. This is available at supermarkets and drugstores. 75ml is 30 pesos, 135ml is P50 & 225ml is P70.

Calamansi

“What should I use to lighten a part of my body?” Our aunts would say “calamansi!”. This fruit is used for cooking, sauces, drinks and skin care. It has a good amount of Vitamin C. This is ideal if you’re on a budget and you’re patient. You can see results gradually if you’re consistent. Cut it in half and gently rub it on the desired area. Leave it on overnight or for a few minutes if you have sensitive skin.

Johnson’s Baby Oil

It is commonly used as baby’s moisturizer. There’s a warm feeling after application which is great after bath. It’s made of mineral oil with a little bit of fragrance. Grown ups are also using this specifically for hair treatment. It locks in moisture which makes the hair softer. You can apply this all over or on the ends of your hair. Leave it on for a few minutes or overnight then rinse in the morning. Mineral oil has a chance of blocking pores so change your pillow case after. It’s available at supermarkets and drugstores.

I used Eskinol and calamansi before. I’m still skeptical with the rest. Are you familiar with any of these? Which one would you like me to try? Comment down below your favorite classic products.

Review: Ever Bilena Naturals Soap, Hand & Body Lotions

4 Feb

Hello readers! This week’s reviews are for local/Philippine brands. Let’s start with Ever Bilena, one of the leading cosmetic brands. They emailed me a few weeks ago to try their skin care products. EB Naturals range has kojic soap with papaya/collagen, face & body sunscreen with moisturizing/whitening and body lotions with argan oil, milk, cucumber, papaya, collagen, citronella.

image

Papaya Soap

Description: infused with Papaya extract that helps whiten skin and reduce appearance of uneven skin tone.

image

It smells like candy at first. It reminded me of Fruitos candy. But when you smell it again, you’ll notice the papaya scent. It has papaya extract which is a trusted whitening ingredient here in our country. This soap also has Salicylic Acid, an anti-acne and antibacterial. It’s good for cleansing the skin. It doesnt melt easily, 90 grams will go a long way. It lathers quickly. I felt squeaky clean and I like that for the body area. My skin was not too dry after rinsing. If you’re not into that, lotion is your next step. I’ll continue using this and see if it will minimize bacne and lighten spots.

White Hand & Body Lotion – Papaya

Description: Made with Papaya extract, to help make your skin fairer and more radiantly beautiful. With UV protection to keep you safe against harmful rays of the sun.

image

Its consistency is like your usual lotion. But I was surprised that my skin absorbed it quickly. Out of all the lotions I’ve tried, this is the most fast-absorbing one. It gives enough moisture and hydration. It has a lightweight feel and no stickiness. My skin feels like skin after application. I sweat a lot so I prefer non-sticky products. I also use public transportation. You know all the heat and pollution we experience daily. I must say this lotion is commuter-friendly.

Daily Sunscreen Whitening Lotion

Description: It has Vitamin E and Shea butter to keep skin moisturized. It also has Licorice extract to lighten skin. It has UVA/UVB protection to shield the skin against harmful rays of the sun.

image

Its texture is thick and mousse-like but feels light on the skin. It doesnt come off easily even if I’m sweaty. If you’re going for a swim, always reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. That’s a general rule even if a product is long lasting. No need to worry about sticky film. It claims to be non-greasy and I approve of that. I also consider this commuter-friendly. Aside from sunscreen ingredients, it has Allantoin (moisturizing & healing), Shea Butter (moisturizing), Licorice for whitening and Vitamin E.

image

You can use the lotions for 2 years after opening. I’ll probably finish these bottles in less than a year. Out of all the products in this range, my favorite is Papaya Hand & Body Lotion. I love the scent and my hands look younger when I use it. I’m using these for almost 2 weeks on my sensitive skin. They did not trigger dermatitis/eczema. Since I have pale white skin, it’s quite difficult to see whitening results from products. What I did notice is they brightened my skin and made it look glowing.

Sunscreen protects us from the sun’s harmful rays and avoiding skin cancer.  Everyone should have sunblock for face and body. The heat is increasing and it’s more harmful for our skin. I’m guilty of not using one when I was younger. Last month, I was thinking of including it in my routine. Ever Bilena came just in time.

Visit everbilena.com.ph to check out/shop for the rest of their skin care line and makeup.

Review: SKIN FOOD Yuja Water Whitening Ampoule in Serum

7 Jan

Yuja Water is one of Skin Food’s releases last year. I was looking for a serum that isn’t too strong and can freshen up my face. I have big hopes for this that it won’t trigger my contact dermatitis. I’m using this for two months now. It’s about time to review it.

image

Description:
Whitening synergy ampoule. Contains yuja extract and moisturizing yuja oil from uncontaminated Goheung city. Moisturizing whitening synergy ampoule effective for treating freckles. After toner application, massage 1 to 2 drops on the entire face by popping the capsules.

Ingredients:

Pros:
– Affordable, got it on sale for less than 1000 pesos from a korean-based store
– Available through online shops and at their local branches in PH
– A bottle contains 44ml of product
– Lemon scent
– Watery consistency
– Did not trigger my contact dermatitis
– Gives light hydration
– No stickiness
– Quickly absorbed
– Did not cause breakouts
– Brightening effect for glowing skin

Cons:
– Slow in whitening

image

There’s no ingredients list on the label. I just searched it on CosDNA and the photo above is the result. This is in my Best Products of 2016 for many reasons. First, I love serums with watery consistency. It gives my oily skin enough hydration. No sticky film so it’s easy for me to apply makeup after.

Second, it doesnt break me out. Only few moisturizers do not make my skin irritated. Third, it’s a brightening serum which helps me to get that glowing skin. Expect that it’s slower to lighten dark spots. That’s the only con if you’re dealing with hyperpigmentation. It’s confusing because there’s “whitening” in its name but description on their website says it’s for brightening.

I still think it’s one of the best moisturizers I’ve tried. I rarely finish creams and serums but I’m sure with this one. I’ll use it all up because it does not cause breakouts and gives enough hydration for me. I’d recommend it to normal to oily skin.

First Impression: Nlighten Cloud Cream

24 Jun

I always see Nworld’s advertisements on Facebook. They’re everywhere and they have a lot of Filipino resellers. Cloud Cream is one of their best sellers.

My sis got this gift from her friend. She allowed me to try it. We want to give you guys an idea about how it feels on the skin.

IMG_20160621_205726

Description
Cloud Cream provides an instant brightening effect making the skin look more healthy and glowing. The extracts of white rice and white milk protein help maintain an even skin tone by protecting it from dark spots. This cloud cream helps limit the over-production of melanin, helps reduce the signs of aging and helps protect from UVA & UVB rays.

Formulated without Paraben, Benzophenone, Triethanolamine, Talc, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Synthetic Pigment and SLS.

Ingredients:
On their website it says “Grapefruit, Ginkgo, Grape, Centella Asiatica, Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Bark Extract and Aloe”. We threw the box. Sorry I couldnt discuss the full list.

Performance:
The packaging is really nice. It includes a spatula which makes it hygienic. Its tub looks expensive and so is the price (P1,450) for a 30g cream.

image2

Its consistency is whipped/fluffy just like Pond’s cream. No wonder it’s called “Cloud” cream. Parang kesong puti/cream cheese yung texture. Now I’m hungry. Haha. It glides smoothly and turns liquidy. It has sun protection, for daytime use only and wash off at night.

IMG_20160621_211111

It smells like women’s shampoo & Pond’s which I’m not a fan of. But the product itself works great. Glad they reduced the use of harmful ingredients. It reminds me of Secret Key’s Snow White Cream. It instantly brightens up the complexion. You’ll see it right after applying. It does give glowing skin. It has matte finish too.

Good for those who want to quickly brighten up skin without using makeup.

Review: Belo Kojic + Tranexamic Acid Intensive Whitening Bar

13 May

Trying more local/Philippine brands are in my New Year’s Resolution for 2016. It’s almost half of the year and this is the first local brand I’ve used. We can tell that I’m failing and I’m not good at new year’s resolutions. Haha!

Anyway, I bought this because it has salicylic acid for acne unlike other whitening soaps. I got it for my dark spots too. Kojic soap dries my bacne (back acne) before so I gave this a shot.

IMG_20160513_193147.jpg
Description:
BELO’s most intensive whitening bar yet that boasts of the unique combination of today’s two most powerful whitening actives.

Kojic Acid is an organic compound that effectively inhibits the production of tyrosinase and melanin, giving skin a visibly lighter appearance. Tranexamic Acid is a peptide proven to inhibit inflammation and melanin formation. It is ideal for stubborn dark spots that do not respond to other skin lightening ingredients.

Size: 65g

Other information & Ingredients:

20160328_204058-1

Pros:
-Affordable, Php 59 ($1.25)
-Has 4 exfoliating ingredients (Salicylic, Lactic, Kojic and Tranexamic) compared to other brands
-No peeling/micropeeling
-More on brightening, not whitening
-Has salicylic and lactic acid for acne
-Helps to dry my pimples even cystic acne

Cons:
-Melts easily
-Stings the eye, avoid that area
-Too harsh if used daily on the face because of its exfoliating ingredients
-Triggered my dermatitis

It quicky dries up blemishes. Even my cystic acne doesn’t last for a week. As for whitening, I didnt see any drastic change on my dark spots because they are deep. It’s more of brightening effect that gives you glowing skin.

Its active ingredients are 4 types of acid. That’s quite strong. This is definitely an exfoliating bar. Do a patch test first if you have sensitive skin. Be sure to apply moisturizer after and lotion for the body. Apply sunblock if you’re going out.

I suggest using it only on the area where there’s a blemish or where you want to whiten. I highly recommend this for drying blemishes especially bacne.

First Impression: Rucy’s Vanity Whitening Set

4 Dec

Happy weekend readers! It’s the first week of December.😱 I have 3 skin care products for you guys. This set can be for yourself or for anyone that you’d like to treat.❤️

It’s a first impression post so you’ll have an idea how it feels on the skin. This set was sent by the Korean brand and Im very grateful for it. As always, everything in this post is still my 100% honest opinion. Let’s start~

Rucy’s Vanity Whitening products are packed with arbutin, aloe, morus alba bark and green tea. Arbutin is known for whitening while aloe, morus alba and green tea are calming and anti-aging ingredients. They also have a hint of rose scent.

image

Perfect whitening formula for women. Contains vitamin E & collagen also known for brightening and moisturizing for a healthy young looking and damage-free skin. Suitable for all skin types and sensitive skin. Whitening, Moisturizing, Contains Vit. E & Collagen, Oil-free, Water base, Suitable for all skin types and sensitive skin, Hypoallergenic & Non-comedogenic

Whitening Toner
This toner is very light and watery. It gives quick hydration. It doesnt feel sticky at all. It soaks in the skin just like water and it doesn’t dry out my skin. It’s 100ml bottle for Php140 ($3).

Whitening Serum
This is probably my most favorite out of all the three. It has more added ingredients; collagen, shea butter, olive oil, grapeseed oil, portulaca oleracea, gingko biloba, adenosine and vitamin E. It gives enough hydration for me. It’s very refreshing although it’s not as watery as other serums. Its consistency is like a runny lotion. It also soaks in the skin quickly without leaving an oily/sticky residue. It’s 60ml for Php210 ($5).

Whitening Lotion
The consistency of this one looks thick at first… But once you spread it around it’s as light as the serum. It’s a nice addition especially for those who have dry skin since it seals the moisture. It’s a 100ml bottle for Php160 ($3.40).

The lotion and toner has a paraben while the serum is paraben-free.

image

Overall, Im very satisfied with them especially if you look at the amount of products you’ll get for an affordable price. Imagine you’ll almost have a complete skin care routine for only 510 pesos. I think it’s a steal. I like how they feel on my skin. The packaging is simple and yet the product quality is really good. They did not irritate nor cause breakouts for me.
