Review: Simple Micellar Cleansing Wipes

Today’s review is for the cleansing step. There’s a Landers store that just opened a few weeks ago near our area. So we stopped by and bought some items. Of course, I had to see the cosmetic brands in there. It’s just the same with S&R. There’s Cetaphil, Dove and Ponds. I bought Simple’s wipes. I heard a lot of good things about it.

IMG_20180624_120104

Pros:
– Affordable, around 199 pesos at Landers for 25 sheets
– Available locally in Landers and department stores
– Oil-free
– Fragrance-free
– Effectively removes full coverage face makeup (foundation, concealer and powder)

Cons:
– Stung a little
– Triggered my contact dermatitis
– Tissue is rough for sensitive skin
– Smells like soda cracker

As you can see from the cons, I’m kind of disappointed that it triggered my contact dermatitis. It removes full coverage makeup just like the other wipes I’ve tried. It smells like soda cracker, just like Etude House’s Baking Powder Pore Cleansing Tissues (Oil Type). It leaves a film but goes away in seconds. Even if it goes away, it’s best to proceed with your facial wash. It stung a little and the tissue was rough for me which caused mild redness for a few minutes. I didn’t see anything special about it except that it’s free from fragrance, oil and color. This is ideal for someone who wants to avoid those and if you do not have hypersensitive skin.

Review: Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy Dermo-Cleanser

Few months ago, I consulted a dermatologist about my dermatitis. She prescribed a cream and also told me to try Physiogel’s Cleanser. I used Cetaphil before and didn’t really like the oily feeling it left my skin. I went to a supermarket and bought a small bottle of Physiogel. I was skeptical to try thinking it would have the same effect on me.

Ingredients:IMG_20180615_082530

Pros:
– Affordable, 120 pesos for 60ml
– Faint scent
– SLS free (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Laureth Sulfate)
– Doesn’t leave film
– Removes oil
– Moisturizing
– Skin felt clean without the dryness

Cons:
– Triggered my contact dermatitis

IMG_20180615_083229

This is better than Cetaphil when it comes to consistency and feeling after rinsing. It has a faint scent, smells “clean”. It’s moisturizing without leaving film. Good to know that it’s SLS-free. Best thing is it does remove oil. My skin felt really clean and there’s no tight feeling.

Sad thing is it triggered my dermatitis. I’ve been using fragrance-free products for many years now. So the fragrance in it must be the culprit or the third ingredient Cetearyl Alcohol. This is a mild cleanser which can’t remove makeup. I didn’t put it in cons because most cleansers can’t really do that. That’s the job of makeup remover.

I bought the smallest size. The biggest bottle is around 400+ pesos. I think it’s reasonably priced. This will be a good fit if you’re not sensitive to fragrance. It’s available in supermarkets and department stores.

Review: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser Bar

I have dry patches all over my cheeks and forehead due to dermatitis. Dry and flaky skin can make the skin’s defense weak. It can cause breakouts, which happened to me. My sister and I used a liquid ceramide cleanser before. The doctor prescribed it and we bought it from her clinic. It did moisturize and repair our skins. From then, I knew ceramide is great for strengthening the barrier and repairing dry skin. I looked for an alternative and Cerave is the drugstore version. They have the liquid and soap bar. It’s not as famous as Cetaphil here in country so I had no luck with the liquid one. I found the cleanser bar and gave it a try.

IMG_20180328_225239

Pros:
– Affordable
– Doesn’t melt easy
– Ideal the for body
– Lathers well
– Did not trigger my contact dermatitis

Cons:
– Doesn’t completely cleanse skin
– Leaves a film
– Caused breakouts
– Did not lessen dry patches

IMG_20180328_223531

I only have a few things to say about this. The soap doesn’t melt easily but lathers well. It will last for a long time especially if you cut it in half. It felt like it didn’t clean my skin which caused the breakout. It leaves a film which is normal for “hydrating” products.. But it did not help with my dry patches. I think this bar is better for body use instead. The lather and film it gives are not bothersome for me if used on the body.

Although it did not trigger my contact dermatitis, I still don’t like how it feels on the face. This kind of cleanser whether liquid or bar is likely to break me out. I guess I have to buy the one from the doctor’s clinic. I expected a lot from this product. I really want to like it. As much as possible, I don’t post negative reviews anymore but honestly it didn’t work for me.

Have you tried a cleanser just like this? Please leave a comment below. I’m in need of suggestions. 🙂

Review: Benton Cacao Moist and Mild Serum

Hello readers! I’m back to do a quick review of one of my recent moisturizers. I reviewed the cream version of this last year. I really liked it but find it quite heavy for my oily skin and the weather here is always hot. I’m glad Benton came out with a serum type. Just in time for the summer!😊

IMG_20180430_190533_441

Description:
Cacao Moist and Mild Serum is a hydrating & nourishing serum that is smoothly absorbed into the skin. The serum is suitable for dry skin and skin with a poor oil-water balance because hyaluronic acid hydrates and minerals from high cacao content nourish skin. The serum helps to keep skin revitalized and glossy. Free of colorant, fragrance, alcohol, and PEGs.

Ingredients:
Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Butylene Glycol, Aqua (Water), Dipropylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Pentylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium
Hyaluronate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Flower Extract, Madecassoside, Allantoin, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Betaine, Panthenol, Carbomer,  Arginine

IMG_20180430_190750_754.jpg

Pros:
– Affordable, 30 grams for $17
– Simple plastic serum bottle
– Gel-like consistency
– Fragrance-free
– Quickly absorbed
– Lightweight
– Did not cause breakouts

Cons:
– Not for very dry patches

You know what I like most about Benton? They keep their packagings simple. I’d rather have a product that’s in a simple bottle but works than something that looks fancy and doesn’t do anything. It’s in a plastic bottle but it’s sturdy. I dropped it once and it didnt crack. The consistence is a gel serum. It’s lightweight and doesnt feel like I’ve put it on. It’s absorbed by the skin in a few seconds.

IMG_20180430_191100

It doesn’t interfere with makeup. I applied makeup smoothly over it. It doesn’t make my skin oilier. It does give off a glowy finish making skin look healthy. If you’re confident in bare skin, you’re good to go with this. Good news if you have sensitive skin like me, it’s fragrance free. We all know fragrance can cause irritations. This is ideal for all skin types. The only con for this is it doesn’t smoothen my very dry patches.

But overall, it’s a good product to moisturize the skin layers. It has a lot of good ingredients, as expected of the brand’s mission. I find that it instantly nourished and hydrated my skin plus the fresh look it gives. If you have normal to oily skin, you can use it all year round, not just in summer. ☺️

Review + Coverage Test: Dermacol Make-Up Cover in 208 & 210

This is my favorite post so far. Today’s going to be about my favorite foundation. Dermacol is a brand from Czech Republic. Their Make-up Cover was raved last year. I ordered samples of 208 and 210 just to see which one fits me. Read the rest to find out more about this famous product~

IMG_20180323_160843.jpg

Description:

The license for this foundation was eventually sold to Hollywood. It contains 50% pigments, which makes it a weapon against skin imperfections. It completely covers acne, loss of pigmentation, post surgical bruising, tattoos etc. It may be used on the entire face or body for color correction, darkening or lightening the skin tones, and ensuring ideal balance. It is widely used as a professional make-up for photo or film shoots, modeling and for festive occasions.

Ingredients:
Cant find it on their website

Pros:
– Affordable
– Comes in many shades
– Little goes a long way
– Tube-type packaging
– Medium to full coverage
– Doesnt accentuate textures
– Smoothens skin’s appearance
– Can be used as concealer
– Did not trigger my contact dermatitis

Cons:
– Feels heavy
– Wears off after a few hours
– Can get cakey

PhotoGrid_1521786220347.png

Both shades dont match me again. Haha! 208 is too light and 210 is too dark. I mix them with my other foundations to get the right color.

 PhotoGrid_1521786731057.png

I’m glad that this product is very affordable. You can get the full size for less than 1000 pesos. But beware of fakes. Buy from trusted sellers only. This foundation was specifically made as stage makeup. My skin is so “snatched” when I’m using this. It’s so smooth that it looks unrealistic. You have to apply contour, blush and highlight. Or wait for it to set before you head out.

Now for the coverage test:

PhotoGrid_1521790223700

It’s the only drugstore foundation that gives great coverage, in my opinion. I like that it doesnt emphasize my textures compared to other foundations. I have oily skin but I prefer this over matte finish. Now for the down side; it can feel heavy. I mix it with other products instead. If you want to use it alone, apply it with a damped sponge to reduce heaviness. It also wears off after a few hours. The longevity will depend on your activities like commuting or staying the whole day in an airconditioned place.

This product is great for covering hyperpigmentations. It would be great for formal events as stated in the description. This is not for people who like natural no makeup look. You will look snatched for sure and that’s what I like personally. Have you tried this? What shade is your match?

Review: The Saem Cover Perfection Ideal Concealer Duo in 1.5 Natural Beige

I like to use concealer instead of thick foundations to cover hyperpigmentation. In my past Althea haul, I bought The Saem’s concealer because it was on sale. I tried it for a month. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I thought 01 is too light for me and 02 is too dark for me. So I had high hopes that 1.5 will be the closest shade for me.

IMG_20180320_130416_465.jpg

Description (from Althea’s website) :

This dynamic duo also contains SPF of 27 and 28, keeping your skin protected from the sun all day. Size: 4.2g + 4.5g

Ingredients (from Althea’s website) :

the_SAEM_Cover_Perfection_Ideal_Concealer_Duo_1_02Pros:

– Affordable, got it for Php360
– Simple and travel friendly packaging
– Fair amount of product
– Little goes a long way
– Light to medium coverage
– Liquid covers redness and minimal dark spots
– Cream covers spots that are darker

Cons:
– Limited shades
– 1.5 looks orange on me
– Can accentuate dry patches
– Gives intense flashbacks
– Caused my breakouts
– Wears off throughout the day

IMG_20180320_132424_447.jpg

For my skin condition, I’d say both the liquid and cream can give light to medium coverage. It can be full coverage if your concerns are only redness and minor spots. I can’t describe the exact scent of it. It smells like wax and a little hint of paint but it goes away. It didn’t bother me. A second layer of the liquid covers my redness really well. One layer of cream gives good coverage.

PhotoGrid_1521522538901.png

Korean makeup is really nice but I dont like that majority of them have SPF. This gave intense flashback when I used my phone’s camera. Cream has SPF 27 while the liquid has SPF 28.  It looks orange on me in natural lighting but looks white on me with flash. So saan ako lulugar? Haha! It caused my recent breakout of cystic acnes.

This is a really good concealer if you dont have sensitive skin. It will probably impress you if you can get your shade match. Both have good coverage and very affordable. It can last for 2 to 3 months max if you’re using it frequently. This is not for events where there’s flash photography. Always moisturize and prime first to avoid dry patches. I just dont like that it broke me out. Until now skin hasn’t recovered from it yet.

Skin101 Consultation + Pimple Injection

My breakouts were more than usual these past few weeks. I searched for clinics offering pimple injection. Skin101 has lowest price so far. I called my preferred branch to ask for the costs:

Doctor Consultation: Php 300
Pimple Injection: Php 50 per piece

The process was smooth. All I had to do was to fill up a form with my details. Then I waited for less than 5 minutes to get to the treatment room. An aesthetician did the procedure. If you’re not confident about that, you can ask their doctor to do it plus consultation fee. I didnt have problems because I was at ease with my aesthetician. She tells me everytime when she’s about to inject the solution. Thanks to her I was mentally prepared for every shot. Haha! She was very nice and didnt do sermon. May iba kasi pinapagalitan ako. Like hey I can’t stop my breakouts. This isn’t my choice.😅

I’m writing this after 24 hours. All the cystic acne have subsided already. I’m satisfied with it and the cost did not hurt my wallet. It’s for cystic acne without pus, ideal if you just want to get rid of it fast or if you have an event the next day.

*Note that this treatment can cause depressed scars if the amount of IL is too much. That’s the risk you have to know.

Skin101 Market Market doesn’t have scheduled appointments. All clients are walk-in. I went there in the afternoon on a weekday. The clinic is usually packed on weekends. Doctors arent available daily so if you want a consultation, call your preferred branch first and ask for the sched. Phone numbers are listed on their website.
